Professional Support & Guidance

Disability Access Solutions remains steadfast in our mission to ensure that all people with disabilities have access to the appropriate resources and are connected to essential supports and services throughout their lifespan. As a subject matter expert in emergency preparedness, we assist other organizations (non-profits, institutes of higher education, governmental entities) in creating and implementing a program. Our expertise enables us to serve as evaluators and technical assistance throughout the course of the projects by ensuring that strategies are inclusive, effective, and responsive to the unique needs of the disability community.

Disability Access Solutions is serving as a partner to Texas Statewide Independent Living Council (TXSILC) on their grant project Together We Prepare: Disaster Resilience for Texans with Disabilities. The Texas State Independent Living Council (TXSILC) has been awarded funding from the Moody Foundation of Galveston, TX, to collaborate with Centers for Independent Living (CILs), disability organizations, and emergency management partners to strengthen disaster preparedness, response, and recovery for Texans with disabilities.

The role of Disability Access Solutions is to provide technical assistance and evaluation to the Project Coordinator to ensure adherence to the highest standards in accessibility and disability-related practices throughout the implementation of the project.

The grant project aims to create a peer-led training program that builds the capacity of the disability community to meet its own needs through workforce development, and emergency preparedness and resiliency trainings.

Recruitment and training of consumers of Centers for Independent Living (CILs) to serve as Disaster Resiliency Specialists provides:

  • workforce development skills for Specialists which will extend beyond the funding cycle.

Peer-led trainings within the disability community on emergency preparedness and resiliency provide:

  • meaningful and actionable information that increases people’s ability to prepare and recover from disasters; and

  • opportunities for the disability community to help themselves through information sharing and the strengthening of networks.
