Disability Assessment & Coordination Entity
Disability Access Solutions (DAS) currently holds a contract with the Governor’s Office of Homeland Security and Emergency Preparedness (GOHSEP) for the Disability Assessment & Coordination Entity (DACE). This program is based in many ways from lessons learned through the Emergency Management Disability and Aging Coalition (EMDAC). The intention is that DACE complements and enhances the efforts of EMDAC. The DACE will coordinate readiness activities, including trainings and meetings, as well as respond to disaster events by providing support to people with disabilities.
(DACE)
Who is DACE?
We are part of the disability community because we are individuals with disabilities, parents of individuals with disabilities, and/or professionals who serve the disability community.
We are a bridge between the emergency management sector and the disability community for emergency preparedness and disaster response.
Our role is to help the disability community before, during, and after disasters.
Our Two Main Aspects:
In the preparedness role, we will be traveling to every region of the state to provide trainings, meetings, and outreach to the disability community, emergency managers, and organizations who support the disability community.
Preparedness
In the response role, the assessment team comprised of Case Workers will travel to meet survivors in their sheltering environment. We will conduct screenings to determine if the Disability Assessment & Coordination Entity can make a referral to supports and services that will improve their recovery outcomes.
